Proprio Cloud Solutions needed to ship major releases for its NetSuite-based Orion platform while simultaneously building a Field Service mobile app from scratch. Manual regression testing was dragging every release cycle. Cleveroad embedded a four-person AI-assisted team built around Claude Code workflows. Over a 10-month engagement, the team delivered across both product streams while replacing Proprio's manual QA process with full test automation.

About Proprio Cloud Solutions

Proprio Cloud Solutions is a Michigan-based SaaS company that develops NetSuite-integrated solutions to automate procurement, quoting, and operational workflows for the contract furniture industry. The company builds purpose-built platforms for both MillerKnoll dealers and the broader dealer network, modernizing a sector that has relied on decades-old systems.

Client's Business Challenges

Proprio was operating two product streams with a constrained internal team and fixed delivery deadlines: ongoing development of its Orion platform (a NetSuite SuiteApp serving multiple client environments) and a new Field Service mobile application for on-site operations.

Regression testing was entirely manual. Each cycle consumed a full working day per environment, and Proprio was shipping across three. That meant three full days of manual QA effort per release. The bottleneck was worsening as the platform grew more complex.

The staffing requirement was specific: a senior full-stack engineer with real NetSuite experience (SuiteScript, SuiteFlow, SuiteQL) and the ability to work across a React Native codebase, QA engineers covering both manual and automation testing, and a project manager. Any partner also needed strong security practices, given the sensitivity of dealer network data.

Core Technical Goals

Proprio defined two primary objectives for the engagement:

  • Accelerate Orion platform development by standardizing workflows, building reusable components, and enabling scalable delivery across multiple client environments. The target: four major releases shipped on schedule.
  • Deliver a Field Service mobile app MVP supporting work order management, crew tracking, punch lists, offline functionality, and real-time synchronization with NetSuite.

A third objective emerged during the engagement: to eliminate manual regression testing as a release bottleneck by establishing automated end-to-end test coverage across all three client environments.

Why Proprio Chose Cleveroad?

Luke Abbott, CTO and Co-Founder at Proprio Cloud Solutions, ran a structured vendor search, comparing firms across platforms, building a shortlist, and checking references. One of Proprio's strategic partners referred Cleveroad based on a successful prior collaboration.

Cleveroad stood out on three fronts: the team matched Proprio's exact staffing configuration, references were strong from comparable engagements, and the response time was the fastest on the shortlist. Cleveroad also brought direct experience in NetSuite's SuiteScript ecosystem, along with ISO 27001-aligned security practices already in place. For Proprio, that meant no ramp-up on access controls, credential management, or code review policies.

They were the only ones who came back with a different approach. They proposed an AI-assisted team. Same number of people. Same deadlines. But the output of a larger team. That kind of thinking was a big reason we chose them.

What Cleveroad Built

Cleveroad embedded a four-person team consisting of a senior full-stack engineer, two QA specialists (manual and automation), and a project manager directly into Proprio's development workflow. The team operated across two parallel workstreams under Cleveroad's project management.

When Proprio needed help with documentation and processes, Cleveroad added a Business Analyst. The specialist produced user guides, product walkthroughs, and test flow documentation for onboarding across client environments. Beyond documentation, the BA identified process gaps and helped align decisions across the team as Proprio scaled its internal operations.

Orion Platform: NetSuite SuiteApp

Cleveroad's full-stack engineer worked inside the Orion platform, Proprio's core NetSuite SuiteApp that powers procurement, quoting, and operations for contract furniture dealers across multiple client environments. The engineer picked up the NetSuite stack fast, including SuiteScript, SuiteFlow, and SuiteQL. These technologies are uncommon outside the ERP domain. Cleveroad's engineer came in with real ERP experience and understood multi-subsidiary data models from the start.

In addition, SuiteScript imposes development constraints that modern frameworks don't, including limited debugging tools and strict execution governance. The engineer adapted by using Claude Code to trace execution flows across modules before writing changes.

Cleveroad's work on the Orion platform included:

  • Feature delivery and bug fixing across multiple client environments, shipping four major platform versions on schedule
  • Building reusable SuiteScript components that could be deployed across different dealer configurations without per-client rework
  • Working with multi-subsidiary data models where procurement, quoting, and operational records need to stay consistent across entity boundaries

Field Service Mobile App

Together with Proprio's internal team, Cleveroad delivered the MVP of a Field Service mobile application in React Native. The app supports on-site operations for field technicians, built with offline-first architecture and background data sync for locations with unreliable connectivity.

The same full-stack engineer who worked on the Orion platform also owned the mobile codebase, handling both NetSuite backend and React Native mobile development while maintaining continuity across platforms.

Key capabilities Cleveroad delivered in the mobile app:

  • Work order management for field service operations
  • Crew tracking and punch list functionality
  • Real-time synchronization with the Orion/NetSuite backend

QA Automation

Regression testing at Proprio was entirely manual before Cleveroad joined. Cleveroad's QA engineers stood up end-to-end automation using Playwright, integrated directly into Proprio's CI/CD pipeline. The unified testing approach covered both web and mobile environments.

What Cleveroad's QA team delivered:

  • Full automated regression coverage across three client environments, each serving a separate dealer configuration, replacing the manual process entirely
  • Playwright test scripts generated directly from acceptance criteria using AI-assisted tooling, replacing a previously manual scripting process
  • Direct CI/CD pipeline integration to run automated tests on every deployment, reducing regression risk and improving release confidence across environments

Tech Stack

  • Platform: Oracle NetSuite (SuiteScript, SuiteFlow, SuiteQL)
  • Mobile: React Native (offline-first architecture, background data sync)
  • QA Automation: Playwright, CI/CD pipeline integration
  • AI Tooling: Claude Code (development, testing, project management, documentation)
  • Security: ISO 27001-aligned practices (access controls, secure credentials, code review policies)

AI-Assisted Delivery in Practice

Every specialist on the team used Claude Code within a role-specific workflow, resulting in measurably higher throughput without a drop in code quality or test coverage. A human reviewed every AI-generated output before it shipped.

How AI was applied across roles on the Proprio engagement

RoleHow AI Was Applied

Senior Full-stack Engineer

Used Claude Code to parse the full codebase and generate pull requests with tests included, cutting ramp-up into NetSuite's SuiteScript ecosystem to under two weeks.

QA Engineers (Manual + Automation)

Generated Playwright end-to-end test scripts directly from acceptance criteria, reducing script creation time from a full day to approximately two hours.

Project Manager

Used Claude Code to decompose features into sprint-ready stories and draft technical specs, cutting sprint planning prep from hours to minutes.

Business Analyst

Produced user guides and test flows using AI-assisted drafting, shortening documentation cycles from days to hours.

Business Impact and Key Outcomes

Collaboration with Cleveroad allowed Proprio to meet all the goals set for the engagement:

  • Orion platform: four major releases shipped on schedule. Sprint velocity was consistent from the first sprint, with no missed deadlines or scope reductions across the 10-month engagement.
  • Field Service mobile app MVP delivered. Work order management, crew tracking, punch lists, offline functionality, and real-time NetSuite synchronization are operational and ready for field deployment.
  • Manual regression eliminated. Full automated end-to-end coverage across all three client environments via CI/CD pipeline, covering both web and mobile.

Sprint output increased by 30–40% compared to a conventionally staffed team of the same size. Proprio measured the difference by comparing story points completed per sprint against baseline velocity from previous development cycles. Sprint summary preparation, previously a manual multi-hour process, was reduced to minutes.

Cleveroad's project manager also established the coordination structure for two parallel workstreams, which Proprio had not fully set up before the engagement. This improved delivery predictability across both products.

The on-time delivery across both product streams allowed Proprio to maintain its product roadmap commitments to its dealer network and move forward with the Field Service app rollout on the planned timeline.

The speed difference was real. We tracked it. Sprint output went up about 30 to 40 percent compared to a normal team this size. And quality didn't drop. Code reviews passed at the same rate. Bugs didn't go up.

The economics reinforced the model. With Cleveroad's AI-assisted approach, Proprio received higher throughput per person per sprint at the cost of the original team size. No additional spend.

Proprio expanded the engagement based on consistent delivery, stable code quality, and measurable gains in sprint throughput. The company is growing the Cleveroad team rather than winding it down, adding capacity to support new product lines and continued platform development across its dealer network.
