About our Client
Law Squared is a NewLaw firm within Squared Group, the parent company and strategic hub behind Law Squared, Cubed, and Tetra Claims. Law Squared works with in-house legal teams at corporates, ASX-listed companies, and multinationals, delivering legal services the way modern businesses actually operate: fast, commercial, and without unnecessary process.
Founded in Melbourne in 2016, the firm now operates from five cities across three countries (Sydney, Brisbane, London, and Auckland). They’ve been named Australia’s most innovative law firm, and they’ve earned that label by building new ways to deliver legal services rather than just talking about it.
Client’s Business Goals
Over years of working closely with in-house legal teams, Law Squared identified recurring operational challenges: increasing workloads, budget constraints, and legal technology that was either too complex or poorly integrated into daily workflows.
To improve collaboration and operational efficiency, our client decided to create Cubed — a Microsoft 365-based matter and contract management platform designed specifically for modern legal teams. They sought an experienced technology partner to:
Ship a working contract and matter management platform within a fixed deadline, covering the full lifecycle from intake through closure.
Architect the platform as a multi-tenant SaaS product so Law Squared could deploy isolated environments for each corporate client while keeping centralized control over governance and configuration.
Build the product so Law Squared’s team could manage scaling, configuration, and day-to-day adjustments without needing developers on call.

Why Off-the-Shelf Didn’t Work
Legal teams had access to standalone CLM platforms like Agiloft, Ironclad, and ContractPodAi. However, these tools required separate infrastructure, pulled users outside their Microsoft environment, and added integration complexity that many smaller teams couldn’t manage.
The deeper issue was architectural. None were designed as multi-tenant SaaS platforms that a law firm could deploy and govern across multiple client organizations with strict data isolation.
Building Cubed on Microsoft Power Apps, with data remaining inside each client’s Microsoft 365 tenant, addressed both challenges.
Cooperation Process and Outcomes
We structured the cooperation in clear stages. It started with planning and validation to define the scope and reduce risks, then moved into development, where the concept was transformed into a scalable SaaS product ready for launch.
Planning Stage
The project began with a Solution Design Workshop to align the product vision with realistic technical possibilities. Cleveroad’s solution architect and business analyst assessed feasibility, business constraints, and timeline expectations, defining a technical approach tailored to the client’s goals and operational environment.
Following the workshop, a structured Discovery Phase translated these decisions into a detailed execution plan. The team documented functional and non-functional requirements, designed system architecture and UI concepts, and developed a Proof of Concept to validate Power Apps' feasibility and Azure Pipelines as a deployment tool.
By the end of the Planning Stage, stakeholders received a validated MVP scope, confirmed deployment strategy, and a clear roadmap for future product scaling, reducing technical risks before development.
Key Discovery Phase deliverables included:
- Proof of Concept validating PowerApps feasibility
- Functional and non-functional requirements documentation
- Business constraints definition
- UI design concepts
- Architecture specifications and deployment strategy
- Azure Pipelines feasibility validation
- Detailed project plan with MVP scope and scaling roadmap
Development in Detail
The development focused on transforming the validated concept into a scalable SaaS platform built on Microsoft Power Apps. The primary goal was to deliver a functional MVP quickly while overcoming platform limitations and preparing the system for future growth.
- The first step was building the core contract and matter management workflows oin Power Apps. During development, the team encountered performance issues with large datasets and limits in native customization. To address this, Cleveroad engineers created custom frontend components, including an improved Kanban-style interface.
- Next, the team addressed integration challenges. External services required non-standard approaches, so our developers created custom connectors, including an automated email parser that extracts relevant data from incoming messages and stores it directly in the system. This automation significantly reduced manual workload for legal teams.
- Finally, the solution was prepared for SaaS scaling. Since Power Apps does not natively support multi-tenancy, tenant-specific logic was implemented directly in the codebase. The team also established DevOps processes and deployment pipelines to manage multiple environments, ensuring legal compliance in Australia and the UK.
The Cube MVP was delivered on schedule and met all performance and functional requirements. Post-launch, the platform demonstrated high code quality with zero critical bugs reported. Legal teams praised the solution for its intuitive interface and practical value, and the product quickly gained adoption across Australia and the UK, with growing interest from other regions.
Product Essentials
The platform is structured as a unified legal operations system that combines matter management, contract governance, reporting, and access control within a single Microsoft-based environment
Matter Management
Matter Management
The Matter Management module governs the full lifecycle of legal matters from creation to closure.
Users can create, update, assign, reassign, search, filter, archive, and close matters within a structured workspace. Each matter stores linked documents, emails, notes, pinned highlights, and closure records.
Audit history and activity logs provide full traceability. Workload visibility tools support prioritization and reduce operational bottlenecks across teams.
Contract Management
Contract Management
The Contract Management module controls contracts from drafting through approval, signing, and deactivation.
Contracts can be created independently or generated from matters, inheriting key contextual data. Users can assign contracts, manage approval workflows, approve or reject agreements, trigger reminders, and track obligations.
Approval types and designated approvers can be configured per contract category. All contracts, emails, and supporting documents are centrally stored with full audit trails. Optional DocuSign integration enables secure execution within the same environment.
Legal Dashboard
Legal Dashboard
The Legal Dashboard provides real-time visibility into matters, contracts, and overall workload distribution.
It supports filtering by organization, department, assignee, and contract type. Monthly processing metrics, contract volumes, and matter throughput are tracked in structured dashboards.
Reports can be downloaded for executive analysis, enabling KPI tracking and operational oversight without manual consolidation.
Microsoft 365 Integration
Microsoft 365 Integration
The platform operates natively within Microsoft 365 using Power Apps and Power Automate.
SharePoint serves as the document repository. Outlook supports automated email synchronization. Power Automate enables workflow automation for notifications, approvals, and milestone tracking.
All data remains within the client’s Microsoft tenant, ensuring data residency, security, and compliance without reliance on external infrastructure.
Business Directory
Business Directory
The Business Directory module maintains structured records of businesses linked to matters and contracts.
Users can view, filter, and update business data, ensuring consistent entity management and reducing duplication across legal records.
Admin App
Admin App
This module governs tenant configuration and role-based permissions within the multi-tenant architecture.
- Organization creation, activation, and deactivation
- User lifecycle management
- Service enablement per organization
- Role creation and fine-grained permission adjustment
- Assignment of roles to organizations
Application Admins can configure approval rules per contract type, while SuperAdmin functionality enables cross-tenant oversight and centralized governance.

Value for Our Client
MVP delivered on schedule with zero critical defects
The Cubed MVP shipped on deadline. Post-launch monitoring confirmed zero critical bugs, and the platform passed all functional and performance benchmarks on the first release cycle. Cleveroad managed the full technical scope, allowing Law Squared’s team to focus entirely on product direction and legal domain expertise. The staff augmentation model kept costs predictable and eliminated the overhead of hiring and managing an in-house distributed engineering team.
Automated processes reduced workload by 35%
The platform automated the full lifecycle of legal matters and contracts, from lawyer assignments to approvals and document updates. Tasks that previously required manual coordination and follow-ups became structured and trackable workflows. As a result, administrative workload decreased by up to 30–35%, which led to 25% more matters completed per quoter. At the same time, structured approval routing and automated notifications cut average contract cycle time from 14 days to 7 days.
Rapid adoption of Microsoft 365-native architecture
Microsoft 365-native architecture allows the platform to integrate seamlessly with existing legal workflows in Outlook and SharePoint, reducing onboarding friction. The solution’s intuitiveness cuts onboarding time per new tenant to just 2 days, down from the typical 2–3 weeks. The product quickly gained traction across Australia and the UK, with 9 tenants onboarded within the first 6 months. Growing interest from additional regions positioned Cubed as a scalable SaaS offering with strong international growth potential.
